68 by John Kim
Today I got my copy of John Kim aka The Angry Therapist’s new book “68,” and even though I am SEVEN pages in, I have found some of the BEST ADVICE I HAVE EVER READ IN MY LIFE. Seriously, if I take nothing else from this book, I want to practice his first lesson:
#1 Don’t React. Do Respond.
“We react from pain … This encourages us to behave without a filter … It’s our way of protecting ourselves . Or so we think … When we react, we are not creating a space to heal. Instead, we are passing on our pain.”
“[A] response requires thought, patience and a plan. A response means thinking of the best way to speak / behave in a given situation that will serve to heal instead of destroy.”
“MEN: Reacting is to take. Responding is to give. Reacting is about you. Responding is about ‘us.’ Boys react. Men respond.”
